I’m honored to serve the members of this legal community as the HCBA president for 2016-2017. I have served on the Executive Committee since 2012, and during the past five years have witnessed tremendous positive changes to the bar association, from increased professional networking opportunities to diverse social events. I would also like to thank Thomas Aycock, outgoing president of the HCBA, for his dedication to the HCBA. Under Tom’s leadership, the HCBA experienced strong growth, and we are grateful for his continued service to Hamilton County.
One of my goals this year is to provide as many high-quality and low-cost CLE events as possible. One of the most important roles of a bar association is to assist its members in staying up to date on the most recent developments in law. Thus far, we have scheduled an E-Filing update with Judge Hughes on March 16, 2016, a CLE on Non-Probate Transfers on June 22, 2016, presented by Jay Curts of Coots, Henke & Wheeler, and later this fall, we will welcome two attorneys from Cohen & Malad to present on Electronic Medical Records.
In addition, our mission also includes a commitment to community service, including legal aid outreach, sponsorship of the annual Mock Trial Competition, and pro bono opportunities for our members.
Last, but not least, we would like to continue to promote collegiality and collaboration among members by continuing to host social events, such as the March Madness get-together and the Indians game in June. We will be adding new events to the schedule as the year progresses, so please keep an eye on future editions of the Barrister Banter for more information.
Thank you, and I look forward to serving you as HCBA President.
