2011 New Year
Message from the President
As the first year of our term comes to an end
it seems appropriate to reflect on the past year. Our
membership levels have continued to grow whereby membership
exceeded 230.
One of our more rewarding experiences has been
sponsoring the mock trial competition. With Stephenie Gookins
efforts, all Hamilton County High Schools participated and we
had approximately 50 members participate as a coach or judge.
For the first time we awarded a scholarship to the outstanding
attorney during the competition.
Shawn Blumenthal once again organized an
outstanding chili competition and the huge trophy went to Eric
Benner. Jillian Keating continues as the social chair, and
organized several Third Thursdays for us.
Summer brought the golf outing, and while we
did not have an enormous turnout as in year’s past, we still had
a great time. It seemed like there were door prizes available
for almost every participant.
As far as community involvement, in addition
to Mock Trial, we donated to the new drug court headed by Judge
Bardach. We also had several members participate in Law Day.
We donated more than 100 pounds of food to the Our Lady of Grace
food pantry. Finally, we co-sponsored a pro se litigant
handbook with the Circuit and Superior Courts.
We have also made a commitment to provide our
membership with CLE opportunities. Rob Emmerson and Eric
Douthit have organized two lunch programs for us this year, and
hopefully will have more in 2011.
We hope you all have a joyous and safe holiday
season, and a happy and prosperous 2011.
John Terry
